Toward a Healthy Community

We consider Oak Meadow School to be a community. As part of a community we enjoy certain privileges which involve certain responsibilities to each other. We recognize that in order to maintain individuality in a diverse community we must be sensitive to the needs of each in view of the needs of the whole. When individual needs or choices are in conflict with the needs of the whole, there are times when the responsible individual chooses the good of the whole. We want to encourage our students to live with a sense of respect for the well-being of the community, recognizing that when the community is healthy, it gives back a sense of security, health and well-being to the individual.

We are therefore asking our students to make the following affirmation and commitment:

Recognizing that I am a part of a voluntary school community, and

Recognizing that certain destructive and self-destructive behaviors can easily interfere with the well-being of the school community, therefore

I affirm that I have never presented destructive behaviors in a school setting before**, and I make a commitment to maintaining proper, constructive and respectful behavior to my fellow students, teachers, and administrators in Oak Meadow School.

We are further strongly encouraging our parents to sit down with their students to consider making the following commitment:

I further affirm my commitment to abstain from any and all drugs, including alcohol and tobacco products, for the duration of my enrollment in Oak Meadow School
